Community Servings provided 341,950 meals to 1,183 clients in fiscal year 2008 (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008). Of 1,183 people served, 824 (70%) were clients with life-threatening illnesses, and 359 (30%) were dependents or caregivers of clients. Children age 18 or younger represented 14% of all clients served.
Community Servings serves 16 towns and communities in Eastern Massachusetts. Sixty-five percent of our clients live in Boston, 10% in Greater Boston, 10% on the South Shore, 10% on the North Shore and 2% in the recently added delivery area of Lawrence. Fifty-one percent of our clients are female, 49% are male, and <1% are transgender. Eight-nine percent of clients are living at or below 150% of the federal poverty income level.
Sixty-one percent of our clients are from racial/ethnic minorities. Thirty-nine percent of our clients are White, 36% are African American, and 17% are Latino. The remainder of our client base is primarily African, Asian/Asian-American, Cape Verdean, Haitian, and Native American/Eskimo.
